Member Spotlight - B's Bath

I'm thrilled to present the first member spotlight of the Merritt Small Business Centre! When I put out the call for "who wants to go first" in our Facebook group, Brittany Blatchford from B's Bath didn't hesitate - and I'm so stoked she jumped on board! Brittany was one of the first members of the group and instrumental {together with Julia from Blue Sky Ranch} in getting the ball rolling on our first collaboration {the Shop Local, Shop Merritt - Spring 2018 Coupon Book}.

You can connect with Brittany {and place an order!} on the B's Bath website, send her an email, or follow her on Facebook and Instagram

Thanks for going first, Brittany. Tell us a bit about yourself and your business.

Hello Merritt! We are B’s Bath, handmade natural bath and shower products. We make bath bombs, sugar scrubs, shower melts and more. We created our business to give you the bath and shower you deserve. We take your dull shower routine and add some flair. Your bath will never be the same once you’ve tried one of our luxury bath bombs. A color and scent you won’t soon forget.

That sounds exciting and relaxing at the same time! Do you have a tagline?

~ Sharing the love, one bath at a time ~

Love it! How long have you been in business? When did you start and how were the early days?

B’s Bath has been in business since October 2017. It all started with a desperate need for relaxation, a love of baths, and a muffin tin. Our first batches of bath bombs were terrible! But with persistence and a few failed attempts, we’ve managed to create a wonderful bath in a ball. In 6 months we have progressed quickly and plan to bring much more to the table as time goes on, for each person to enjoy.

That sounds like you've been very busy. Do you have help and support from your family?

My business is indeed sculpted and supported by my family. Both of my parents have been nothing short of supportive in any way they can, including letting me commandeer the entire basement! Having other people believe in your dream as much as you do is what has gotten me this far. My mom, Stephanie Blatchford, helps with all of the making and packaging, and she attends each fair/market with me. My dad, Mike Blatchford, helps with picking up supplies, smell testing and most of all, just putting up with all of our crazy ideas. Without the support and help from my family none of this would be possible.

Sounds like you are a great team. What do you love most about being a business owner?

I love being able to make a product that makes a difference in helping someone relax and enjoy a few moments of “me” time. Self care has a huge impact on your physical and mental wellbeing. It’s something people need more of, so if it’s a bath, I’m happy to help! I’ve also enjoyed being able to meet and connect with so many of Merritt’s talented and supportive citizens.

Yes, it's definitely a great experience to connect with customers. Now that we know what you favourite part of being a business owner is, I would also like to know what your least favourite part is.

My least favourite part about being a business owner is paperwork, paperwork, paperwork. It’s the one thing there is never a shortage of. There never seems to be enough time in a day to get it all done. All this paperwork takes away from my outdoor play-time now that Spring has sprung.

I think many business owners will be able to relate to that one - I know I can! It's not easy to find balance. What's the best advice you've ever gotten for your business?

Buy low, sell high….KIDDING! This is what I was told: “Don’t break, just bend. The strongest of trees know how to sway in the roughest of storms. Your roots may hit barriers, but always find a way, it’s there.”

That's great advice, not just for business. Last question: What do you like to do when you're not busy running B's Bath

In my spare time, I spend most of it outside! Stephanie and I have a passion for geocaching and the valley is full of them. I love to fish and explore many of the trails Merritt and area have to offer. Now that the weather is getting better, I look forward to kayaking and making the best of the nice days while I can. I plan on doing plenty of markets this season, so travelling and seeing our beautiful valley this summer with be another one of my favourite things to do.

We'll be sure to stay up to date on your latest additions and expansions to your business. Thank you, Brittany, for taking the time!
